AFAC, as the national council for fire and emergency services, supports the sector to create safer, more resilient communities. We drive national consistency through collaboration, innovation and partnerships. We deliver enhanced capability by developing doctrine and supporting operations.


The Royal Commission after the 2019-20 bushfires made several recommendations regarding nationally consistent data layers. Several initiatives have emerged where AFAC member agencies are working with outside entities to develop these layers. AFAC is working with the ARDC to deliver two of six related projects that will deliver national bushfire fuel layers to researchers, national platforms and Commonwealth organisations.


As part of this work AFAC is delivering a Data Governance Framework to set out how data will be shared (i.e. data management, permissions and licencing data from agencies to third parties). AFAC is seeking a Data Implementation Officer finalise the implementation of a data governance framework and establish the pathway for implementation.


We are seeking to second a suitable person from across the sector who would be who would be interested in leading this important piece of National work. Is there someone you know who would benefit from this experience, or can you distribute further through your networks?


The role will collaborate with agencies and AFAC Council to finalise a Data Governance Framework for the sector. It will involving working with a variety of stakeholders and data development teams, to draw out required detail for the development of data model artifacts such as documentation, ER diagrams, relationships, and keys. There is a need to define data modelling standards and develop associated documentation. It will include liaison with agencies on current data types and standards and develop templates for data needs across multiple platform interfaces.


A position description has been attached, it is anticipated the secondment will be for up to 6 months commencing in January. The role sits in the National Capability Directorate of AFAC. The office is in Melbourne, however flexible and remote working arrangements are possible.
